This year I will be working with all Kindergarten and First Grade students who are in Pennoyer’s Early Literacy Groups. These groups meet with me two or three times per week for 30 to 40 minutes of small group instruction. Our focus will be on letter names, letter sounds, isolation of sounds and the recognition of Dolch Words.

Students qualify for an Early LIteracy Group if their scores on the September, January or May AimswebBenchmarkings reflect a need for additional early literacy support. Aimsweb Benchmarkings allow Pennoyer School to monitor all students’ literacy progress. If your child participates in an Early Literacy Group, you will be notified by me through a letter sent home with your child.

I look forward to working with all my students. We really do have a good time.

Welcome Back to all my students and to many new faces that will come to Title I Reading. I’m always glad to see my former students as well as meet new students. I hope everyone had a fun summer. The only problem with summer is that it goes by too fast!

This year Title I Reading Students will be introduced to many new books. I’m very excited about all the good reads that we will be covering this year. It will be fun to meet new characters, visit new places and deal with new situations or relate to things we personally have already dealt with. Making connections to all of these things is probably my favorite part of reading.

Increasing our speed and remembering to read with expression while we respect the text’s punctuation is always an important goal of Title I Reading Students. Pennoyer’s Aimsweb Benchmarkings in September, January and May will monitor all Pennoyer students to make sure that all students are meeting the appropriate grade level fluency goals.

There will be so much more to explore as we get into the swing of things in Title I Reading class!
